Clinical Experience

Welcome. I am Tamara Skinner, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Maryland providing virtual counseling sessions to those seeking help with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, and emotional impacts of living with adult ADHD.

I have experience working with adults, young adults, older teens, and military families. I have provided both individual and group counseling in a community program, intensive outpatient, and private practice settings.

I use an integrative approach that incorporates elements from Person/Client-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Solution-Focused, Somatic and Strength Bases modalities through a Trauma-Informed Care lens.

I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors and received my Master of Arts in Education and Human Development degree with a focus in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Washington University in Washington, DC.

The desire to help others was established at a young age and really took root after working in the office of a mental health professional during college. I found helping others face and many times overcome the challenges of life to be a rewarding experience.

Also, I am no different from the clients I see. Like everyone else, Iā€™m human and growing up life presented me with my own set of challenges and rewards. I have been through both wonderful and difficult experiences that have shaped who I am and how I help. It is those life experiences that have led me to become the counselor I am today.

Being a counselor is an honor. I love guiding people toward positive changes and witnessing them achieve more fulfilling lives. The most rewarding thing about being a counselor is seeing a person walk away lighter, freer, and excited about their life.
